WHAT IS MLI AND HOW IS IT USED IN SPACE APPLICATIONS?
Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) is a passive thermal control solution specifically designed to protect spacecraft and spaceborne systems from extreme temperature fluctuations encountered in the space environment.
Space-grade MLI consists of multiple layers of highly reflective films, typically separated by low-conductivity spacers and installed under vacuum conditions. This layered structure drastically reduces radiative heat transfer, enabling precise thermal control while minimizing mass and power consumption, both critical parameters in space missions.
